Hi!
Welcome to the Kid's club page. Kid's Club is open to anyone over 3 years
old. Each Sunday we get together to explore arts and crafts.
At Christmas we had a theme called "How many miles to Bethlehem".
We asked the congregation to fill in a Census form sent by His Imperial Majesty
Caesar Augustus! In them we asked where people were born, how long it would
take to walk, yes walk, ther and where they would stay. The answers were many
and varied. Our congregation comes from Surrey,Cheshire, Glasgow, Johnstone,
Balloch, St. Andrew's, Arbroath, Edinburgh, Port Glasgow and even far off
Gourock. One of the replies which most intrigued the children was a reply
from someone who was born on board ship en route to Canada. Others were born
closer to home in fact in the same house where they still live. The point
to all this was to make everyone think a little more about the journey Mary
and Joseph made to Bethlehem and relate it to ourselves. We are also very
grateful to the person who offered B & B accomodation with the claim that
"There is room at MY inn".
Along with the census forms we asked anyone who had visited Bethlehem for
their impressions or memories of their visit. Here are a few of their comments.
"Very peaceful despite the buzz of tourists. It was a stormy day when
I visited yet there was an aura of calmness everywhere. It was obviously a
pilgrimage of a lifetime for many travellers".
"There was no stable ~ just an underground cave in which people of all
nationalities met. People began to sing "carols" in their own tongue
but we shared the same tune. You felt you belonged to a huge family worldwide!
It was deeply moving to be part of that."
"Small ~ streets busy~ soldiers present so we could not pass into Jerusalem
without special permission ~ people friendly."
"Busy ~ armed soldiers on the street just as there were in Jesus time."
"Seeing the town sign you expect to also see snow, stars, Christmas trees
and reindeer.
~But it is very busy, very commercialised, with tourist tat all around.
~But in the place where Jesus was born there is still a sense of peace and
wonder ~ in a little grotto."
Thank you all for taking part in our Advent theme we very much appreciate
your help.
Now onto Spring. We have finished our Winter frieze and are now planning our
run up to Easter.
Our plans include mosiac pictures, cards and egg decorating . Val and I attended
a resource evening on Easter crafts and have several new ideas to try out.
